The Bungalow

In this remote place where ghosts and vampires do not exist, traversing this beach is rather exclusive and enjoyable.  The myths and legends are just for kids while those they found themselves aware are passionately telling those stories and experiences.

The zephyr touches the lush leaves of ‘barok-barok’ producing the hissing sound of claps and twirls of its branches in a surrendering craze.  The cicadas feverishly sing its music like a lullaby to make someone rest.  The long and sandy beach sandwich by these ‘barok-barok’ and ‘bakawan’ is lonely and quiet.  In every turns you anticipate someone to emerge from harvesting a ‘sagkad’ or someone with ‘sagad’ full of fish like the ‘banak’, ‘sandig’ and ‘malagapas’ but no one aside from the singing of ‘taray-taray’ and the seldom cry of ‘tagak’.

The thin and high coconut trees shades further the lonely canopy. The fresh juice of young coconut is a welcome relief from the excruciating summer heat.  The footprints are wiped by the surging tide.  The workaholic ‘amamaypay’ are fearless in digging their home in that long and winding sand. The relentless growl of the waves while breaking its fury amongst the rocky shallow part of the island ledge is drumming a melody of life.

When breaking the sight of white beach, the crocodile shaped Canimog Island is a refreshing view from afar.  At dawn, the sun breaks and emerges from the towering peak of Apuao Grande Island and looking like a powerful god on a the flattened island of Quinapaguian.  The island triumvirate is mightily defending this place from the pounding of the Pacific Ocean.

The lazy scene is a kilometer walk from the near shore where you parked a ‘baruto’.   When high tide comes you can paddle a ‘baruto’ in the ‘bakawanan’ that provide narrow passages towards the tip of the beach.   The ‘bakawanan’ is home to various mangroves specie that thrives fearlessly through time like the ‘pagatpat’, ‘kuyapi’ and ‘sapinit’.  The shallow water is home to ‘bungkang’, ‘an-it’, ‘tuhoy’, ‘balilit’, ‘bagungon’, ‘takal’, ‘bugkat’ and ‘tihim’.

During the night when the moon is dark and those clouds hide its distinct light you can see glowing trees with ‘kuti-kuti’.  The ‘talisay’ trees are noisy and uneasy at night.  The ‘kabog’ are busy dining in those sweet pulps of the ‘talisay’ fruit.  The prominent red light of Canimog lighthouse is a beacon of safe distance of the coast.  The tingling suck of ‘nuknok’ is a reminder of some company.

Just before the river cuts the sandy beach, an old familiar pile of sedimentary rocks towering from the blossoming leaves of ‘bakawan’, ‘barok-barok’, ‘talisay’, ‘palomaria’ and wild grass once stands the mighty bungalow where myths and legends told.

When A Bird Flies

There is sugar on your feet
The ants came crowded and free
Poor man’s skin furrowed
Desire and happiness alight at once

The cascading rain surround
Every ear of silence in raptures
The striking right foot kills
Bruises define the sniveling soul

Swallow the eyes that chase
The lingering pain and numbness
Beauty defines and found no one
Every brute died in sorrow

Sailing in the summer warmth
A tad and drop of water is gold
The soul hunt in the distance
Towering sight and smelling divine

Happiness found no one
Birds fly in the distance
An egret perch from a flight
Distance unknown and far

Then you remember the euphoric waves
Bringing tides of thwack force
Brutal and free
Makes a heart of stone to sand

The ticking clock calls

Silence again then a roar

To someone it is wonder
It is something you adore

Every man’s fell
The sound of pounding deep
Diving into every man’s emotion
Like a cat and mouse squabbling

Then you stay and focus
The sight of luminous ceiling
One thing that can lead to you
The switch jiffy and gone

Home

The gentle breeze from the east has come. The warm wind that brings thousand challenges and blessings is fading. The sight of lukewarm sun over the horizon is teasing. The dew caught by the green leaf sparkling. The goats are grazing joyfully not minding the feast to come.

The chant of the cicadas has changed though who could have heard the difference. The playing children in the river are calm and their yells and splashes resonate.

For every breath you take, a droplet of hope is captured. The excitement and stares of my neighbors are the same as yesteryears.

We shall again take the river cruise. The paddling is easy like touching a delicate sanctuary. In the raging river we sail while a gentle conversation sparks with thousand of songs and stories to tell. My father paddling the banca…

In The Corner

Why do we paint those window grills red?
When we can express it in green
What can you say about that vase in the corner?
We can put flowers instead of twigs

What is more delirious than on a building crane?
Always above its masterpiece until the latter is done
Why do we put those flowers in a pot when it can grow in wild?
No spraying of water when earth can provide

It is best arranged in a group
Why those cable wires intertwined
Natural air you can breathe
What is inside those windows we hide?

Who can answer my questions?

I should be the one thinking

The best that we can be
Is answered by knowing who should be

Love and Rain

Rain, rain where are you?
Fill this empty heart of mine
A touch of warm fresh sea breeze
Until you come again

I engaged the power of the wind
I implored to the ocean of rains
I seek and now I was answered
A real beauty of the east

Oh, the love and breath you gave
The drops of fading you
Beckons a bright red, green and blue
How can I forget your hue?

The chanting birds come
Noise of the ugly frogs roar
Bats and pigeons flying the heaven
The scene is mesmerizing divine

Bits and pieces uncover
A new found inspiration
To the beach I travel
Its sunny day and noon

Birthplace

Bangkang May Tatod

Madalas itong masukal, mabatong matutulis at maputik.
Minsan may huli madalas bokya! Unti unti itong naging marupok at nabiyak.

Simply Life

Facing the running river

With sun setting over the horizon

Seeking the wild caress of cold breeze

Divine it may seems for a young heart

I can no longer feel the calluses in my hand

My hips is full of tension from my paddling

My life is in a deep tranquil blue ocean

Vast but willing to be ashore

I am alive I can feel my breath

I have hands, ears and nose

To feel life hardships

Alas I can say that everyday is a blessing to everyone
